Today we’d like to introduce you to Daunte Paschal.

Daunte, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Daunte DeVon Paschal, a licensed professional barber out of Northeast Portland, now residing in Dallas, TX. A 1994 graduate of Moler Barber College in downtown Portland. Daunte begins cutting hair in the 7th grade. By the time he was a sophomore in high school, had a regular rotation of clientele.

Bedrooms, bathrooms, and locker rooms were the places you could find him plugged in. Today, Daunté’s clientele includes many of today’s elite professional athletes and celebrities. He has been featured in magazines and television shows such as The Source, ESPN Magazine, ESPN’s “The Life,” and several news articles throughout the United States. Mr. Paschal has been a vendor of Nike Inc. since 2006, and is known on social media, as “the official Nike Barber.”

Daunte is currently, contracted with the Dallas Mavericks.

Chosen as one of Portland Development Commission’s 2016, “PDX StartUp Business Challenge” $25,000 prize winners for outstanding business concepts, and urban development. Today, Daunte is the founding owner of “Man U Script,” hair care products, and the President/CEO of “Making A Dash Scholarship Fund,” for at-risk youth, with aspirations of becoming barbers.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Committing to the craft was the first challenge. I wanted to be a basketball player, or at least live a player’s lifestyle, and I didn’t see barbering being a lucrative career. I graduated from high school, as a juvenile delinquent. Kicked out of college my freshman year after achieving freshman honors. I enrolled in barber college to escape death or jail.

Nevertheless, the streets were unforgiving. I was shot just 3weeks before graduation from barber college. With the help and support of my family, church, and youth counselors, was nurtured back to health. I chose to finish my course over the appetite for revenge.

As a young parent, my children needed me alive, and my support system deserved to see me finish. I graduated with 1200 haircuts over the required 400. The streets nicknamed me “Famous;” eventually for good reason.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a Master Barber. Known on social media as “The Official Nike Barber,” My fades, lineups, and hairstyles have gone viral. Reigning supreme, as the 17-year NBA All-Star (barber)! My humble gift has made room for me on platforms that I previously only dreamed about. Although my latest contract with the Dallas Mavericks came as a complete blessing.

What I’m most proud of, is the “Making A Dash.” Scholarship Fund that I established in my name for at-risk youth, because there’s a 17-year-old me somewhere out there, and this is my chance to give back to the community that I terrorized as an undecided adolescent. The beginning and the ending of life are assigned to you, but the dash is determined by you; make it a good one.

Any big plans?
I recently launched Man U Script men’s haircare products. While it’s yet in the first phase of retail development, my plans are to become a global resource in men’s grooming. Eventually, I’ll headquarter a space, but I’m gonna wait until my real estate portfolio matures to do so.
